Most members begin with our angel investing bootcamp, a rigorous program taught by our founder who is a professor of venture capital at Columbia Business School. Our bootcamp is offered in two formats (the content is identical). Both formats are experiential in nature - participants immediately put the learning to practice by conducting diligence on a real startup (sourced from the 2500 we see each year) under the mentorship of our team and seasoned angel investors.
The bootcamp is only the first step in your learning journey. Upon completion of the bootcamp, you will be able to take full advantage of all of the opportunities our network has to offer. We engage our members in a variety of ways, from access to continued education opportunities (such as workshops and industry deep dives) to our high quality deal flow opportunities to social and professional networking events.
When can I join the network?
We accept members on a rolling basis. Our next online bootcamp will run Jan 21-Mar 16, 2025, and our next NYC bootcamp will run Apr 25-26, 2025.
I have never made an angel investment before, can I still apply?
Yes! Membership generally begins with our angel investing bootcamp. Its rigorous curriculum is scheduled around one of our pitch forums, so that you can immediately put into practice what you have learned and can take full advantage of the opportunities our network has to offer.
Can I join the network without going through the angel bootcamp?
Of course. We generally strongly encourage new members to enroll in the bootcamp. However, if you are an experienced investor, we welcome you to apply to join our network. Annual membership fees are $3000.
What is required to join the network?
Complete an online application and interview
Be an accredited investor according to rules set forth by the SEC of net worth in excess of $1 million (excluding value of primary residence) or individual income in excess of $200K or household income in excess of $300K for the past 2 years.
Annual membership dues are $4500 in the first year (which includes the tuition for the investment bootcamp) and $3000 each subsequent year
What expectations are involved as part of the membership?
Members are expected to:
Participate in at least one diligence team per year (writing a portion of a diligence memo)
Meet the annual investment requirement of one $25K angel investment
Be an active member of the 37 Angels community by supporting our portfolio companies and the network
Do you only invest in women-led businesses?
No. We believe that our angels should invest in companies that align with their interests and that can benefit from their advice and guidance. We do not restrict ourselves to only investing in women-led businesses.
Can men apply for membership?
At 37 Angels, we aim to activate investors through educational bootcamps, with the goal of increasing diversity in investing. In particular, we seek to reduce the gender gap in angel investing. We recognize that our goal cannot be achieved without the support of allies and do not wish to exclude anyone on the basis of their gender. Please apply and/or email us at admin@37angels.com if you have any questions.
Do I have to be based in the New York area to join the NY chapter / Are you ever going to have a program outside of NYC?
We have had participants from South Africa, Hong Kong, San Diego, San Francisco, Boston, and beyond! Our pitch forums take place every 2 months in NYC and our investors often travel in for those events (our largest 2nd cities are San Francisco and Boston). We do record our pitch forums and many of our events can be joined virtually. However, you may lose out on some of the benefits of local networking. If you are interested in helping to coordinate a bootcamp in another city, email us at admin@37angels.com and let us know where you're based. We may come to your city next!
